I’m in Stanley and currently sorting through an old safe that’s been tucked away in the house for years. Inside were a few bits I’d completely forgotten about: an 18 carat gold bangle, a 9 carat signet ring, some scrap gold from damaged chains, a pair of antique diamonds from a broken ring setting, a silver cigarette case, and a small silver inkwell.
I’m trying to work out the best place to sell gold and antique diamonds locally. Ideally somewhere reputable that deals fairly with jewellery & silver for cash.
I’m just over in Chester-le-Street and sold my items with Northern Bullion. I had a couple of gold sovereigns, an 18ct curb chain, a 9ct wedding ring, a diamond cluster pendant, and a set of silver napkin rings. They tested everything in front of me and explained the values clearly before paying me there and then.
I’m from Consett and went through something similar last year. I initially thought about auctions for a gold pocket watch and a few bullion bars, but auctions are no good due to long wait times and high commission rates, better off using Northern Bullion. I sold all my items with them directly and it was straightforward.

The whole process was relaxed and much easier than I expected.
