House Clearance In Wetherby Case Example: House Clearance Requirements
This case was somewhat unusual. The client wanted us to completely clear a large Victorian house which had been used as offices for many years in Wetherby centre. The property was full of desks, chairs and sundry other office furnishings and a fair amount of broken office equipment. He had now decided to return it to its original use as a family home, which he intended to live in himself with his wife and four children. The property also had good sized garden which had been almost completely covered with wooden decking which the client wanted us to remove.

We were to clear out all furniture, take up the carpets, which were worn and beyond reuse, take down venetian blinds from windows and remove notice boards and other fittings from walls. The client also wanted us to assess whether any of the contents had a significant second-hand value. The garden was to be cleared ready for turfing and landscaping. Finally the client wanted us to clean the property ready for builders to start on conversion and decorating work.

After our initial inspection, we told the client that some of the office furniture could be resold for a modest amount. Since we were only talking about a few hundred pounds, the client asked if anyone might be able to make use of the serviceable desks, chairs and filing cabinets. We knew of some local charities in the Wetherby area that were always looking for furniture, and the client readily agreed to that solution. There was some broken down electrical equipment such as photocopiers and those we disposed of properly through waste recycling facility in Wetherby. There was a considerable amount of paper waste which we were asked to shred for confidentiality reasons before recycling. As always in these circumstances, we provided written confirmation that this had been done. Unfortunately, some of the furniture and the carpets, and all of the decking in the garden, which was rotten, had to go to the recycling centre. This is something we always try to avoid since we’re very conservation conscious.
